Visa Processing this means the number or working days after a consular officer decides to issue a visa, for the passport and visa to be returned to the applicant.

Visa typical Wait Time (Calendar Days*) for a Nonimmigrant Visa Interview Appointment in Beijing, China

Visitors Visas: 21 Days
Student/Exchange Visitors Visas ***
(Excludes: A, G, K, and V): 6 Days
All Other Nonimmigrant Visas: 2 Days

Typical Wait Time (Workdays**) for a Nonimmigrant Visa To Be Processed****: 3 Days

*Calendar days refer to every day of the week, including days when embassies are closed (such as weekends and holidays).
**Work days refer only to days when the embassy is open and does not include weekends and holidays.
*** The All Other Nonimmigrant Visa wait time DOES NOT include K or V visa applications, which are processed similar to immigrant visas. A and G applications are excluded from these wait times, as they are processed separately.
****IMPORTANT NOTE: Processing wait time DOES NOT include the time required for additional special clearance or administrative processing. These procedures require additional time. Most special clearances are resolved within 30 days of application. When additional administrative processing is required, the timing will vary based on individual circumstances of each case. Processing wait time also does not include the time required to return the passport to applicants, by either courier services or the local mail system.

Application Visa from within Hong Kong and Macau

All applicants should use the Electronic Visa Application Form (EVAF) available on the U.S. Consulate General in Hong Kong website. See " How Do I Apply? " Applicants who do not use EVAF will only be scheduled for interviews on Wednesdays.

Applicants can book appointments via the U.S. Consulate General in Hong Kong on-line system and usually have next-day availability. See " How Do I Apply? "

Students, Petition-based applicants (H, L, O and P visas) and Macau residents do not need appointments – they can walk in daily from 8:30-10:30 a.m.

All visas are returned by Hong Kong Courier Post 3 to 4 working days after visa issuance. PLEASE NOTE: There is no same day delivery of visas so please allow adequate time for visa delivery when you plan your travel.

Application Visa from within Taipei, Taiwan

Bearers of Taiwan passports traveling to the U.S. must have a valid U.S. visa, except for direct travel to Guam. There are two primary types of U.S. visas, nonimmigrant and immigrant.

Nonimmigrant visas are issued to those who intend to enter the U.S. for a temporary stay and who intend to depart the U.S. at the end of their stay.

  • Average visa processing time, click here : This means the number of working days it takes for applicants to receive their passport via the courier once a consular officer issues a visa.

  • All applicants should be aware that the times given above are AVERAGES, and that the processing time of a specific case can vary due to individual circumstances and other special requirements.

  • Applicants seeking to travel for emergency medical treatment may come directly with their forms, documents and postal receipts to the Nonimmigrant Visa Unit's Information Window during office hours.

Immigrant visas are issued to those who wish to permanently reside in the U.S. ("green card" holders).
