Santa Ana, CA – The U.S. Small Business Administration and the Yorba Linda Chamber of Commerce will hold a ribbon-cutting celebration March 31 to mark the successful start-up of Michael and Amy Spillane’s business, “The Cookie Element” located at 18166 Imperial Highway in Yorba Linda, Calif. “The Cookie Element” is a retail bakery which offers a wide variety of cookies, macarons, ice cream cookie sandwiches, coffee, and other premium desserts. In addition to operating its retail storefront, the business also books reservations for team parties and social events.

“Small businesses like The Cookie Element are the engine of our economy. They create two out of three net new private sector jobs. Half of all working Americans either own or work for a small business,” said SBA District Director J. Adalberto Quijada of the agency’s Santa Ana District Office. “Not only are small businesses integral to our economy, the character and vibrancy they bring to our Main Streets are a big part of what makes ‘home’ home.”

“SBA’s Community Advantage loan program, in participation with our lending partner CDC Small Business Finance, makes projects like this one possible,” said Rachel Baranick, Deputy Director, SBA Santa Ana District Office. “At the SBA, our mission is to help American small businesses to start, grow and succeed.”

“Working with Michael and Amy to secure the SBA loan was a real pleasure- not only because the loan made good financial sense with their well-crafted business plan and good credit, but also because of the heart and soul evident in their business. The Cookie Element is an extension of their family and a true part of the local community,” said Stacey Sanchez, Senior Community Loan Office, CDC Small Business Finance. “They are exactly the type of business owners we want to help grow and thrive here in Orange County.”

“CDC Small Business Finance and the SBA aided us to secure the financing we needed for our start-up concept when traditional banks saw us as too early stage,” said Amy & Michael Spillane. “The team at CDC Small Business Finance and the SBA supported our dream of opening a bakery in Yorba Linda and helped to make it a reality. Their enthusiasm for our concept and expertise in lending have been instrumental to our early success.”
