Chengdu Office of American International Chamber of Commerce unveiled

The Chengdu Office is the 4th office of the American International Chamber of Commerce set up in China after Beijing, Shanghai and Shenyang since 2007. Mr. Jason Quin, the Chief Representative of Chengdu Office said with pride that Chengdu has enjoyed amazingly fast growth recently, and that American International Chamber of Commerce is “late” for the city.

On the evening of November 29, 2011, the Chengdu Office of the American International Chamber of Commerce was unveiled.

Mr. Mao Zhixiong, Assistant Mayor and Secretary-General of the Chengdu Municipal Government attended the unveiling ceremony on behalf of the Chengdu Municipal Government.

Chengdu enjoys a good reputation among foreign enterprises

On October 19, 2011, Mr. Ge Honglin, Mayor of Chengdu, met with Mr. Myron Brilliant, Senior Vice President of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, who came to Chengdu for the 12th Western China International Fair and the 3rd China- America Cooperation and Development Forum.

During the meeting, Mr. Ge said there has been flourishing trade between Chengdu and the US in recent years, with the trade volume growing at a fast speed and the US becoming one of the major trading partners of Chengdu.

The planning of the Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Development Zones shows a clear way for Chengdu to accelerate construction of an international city. Chengdu, enjoying a broad prospect, will surely play a growing role in the world economy by integrating itself quickly into the world economy, he said.

Chengdu enjoys a very good reputation among foreign-funded enterprises for safeguarding fair play, intellectual property rights and free competition. A workshop for foreign enterprises is held every quarter in Chengdu, showing the sincerity of the Chengdu Municipal Government to better the investment environment and its government service, he said.

Mr. Brilliant said the rapid economic growth of Chengdu in recent years despite the terrible earthquake and arduous reconstruction work has been recognized by the international community and deserves its admiration.

The US Chamber of Commerce pays great attention to trade and economic ties with Chengdu. And we hope to expand our business in western China through further cooperation with the city, he said.

At the office’s unveiling ceremony, a strategic partnership agreement was signed between the American International Chamber of Commerce and Chengdu Foreign Business.

Both partners expressed their intention to cooperate with Chinese enterprises by taking advantage of the rich business information resource platform of the American International Chamber of Commerce. More investment programs between China and the US will be launched through concerted efforts in order to help both Chinese and foreign enterprises to go globally.

What we care about most is Southwest China’s surprisingly rapid growth which is beyond our imagination, Mr.Quin said.

His remarks highlight his optimism about the prospect of Chengdu.

With the founding the Chengdu Office, the American International Chamber of Commerce will stay in close partnership with Chengdu which holds the most important status in western China, he said.

He noted the American International Chamber of Commerce will share both opportunities and challenges with Chengdu.

He also revealed the American International Chamber of Commerce was preparing for a firm in Guangyuan, Sichuan, to be listed in the US.
